About the Role:
This role sits at the operational core of campus sustainability.
As Sustainability Specialist for Operations and Engagement, you will translate strategy into action across facilities, student programs, and institutional partnerships. You are not just supporting sustainability. You are embedding it into the daily rhythm of campus life.
What You’ll Do:
Operations & Facilities Integration
Partner with Facilities Management to integrate sustainability into building design, operations, and maintenance.
Support initiatives such as recycling improvements, energy tracking, and sustainable grounds management.
Programs & Campus Engagement
Lead and execute major sustainability events including Campus Sustainability Month, Earth Month, and Move 2 BU.
Develop and manage co-curricular programs such as Eco Rep and Living Lab initiatives.
Communications & Outreach
Oversee sustainability communications across digital platforms, newsletters, and social media.
Promote awareness and participation through campaigns that connect sustainability to student life and learning.
Partnerships & Collaboration
Build and maintain relationships across academic departments, student groups, and administrative units.
Collaborate with local and regional stakeholders including the City of Waco and broader Texas networks.
Data, Reporting & Administration
Maintain sustainability data across energy use, waste, certifications, and environmental performance metrics.
Support reporting frameworks and institutional tracking efforts.
Assist the Senior Director with administrative and strategic functions.
About You:
You are a connector, a builder, and an operator.
You understand that sustainability is not a department. It is a system.
To succeed, you:
Hold a Bachelor’s degree with at least 2 years of relevant experience
3 years of experience is preferred
Have familiarity with AASHE and STARS frameworks (preferred)
Bring experience or interest in sustainability communications and engagement
Can manage multiple initiatives while maintaining structure and follow-through
Are collaborative, organized, and comfortable working across diverse teams
Are authorized to work in the United States full time
