Opportunity
Renergen is recruiting an Environmental Officer to oversee environmental compliance at its Virginia Gas Plant.
The successful candidate will ensure that the company and its contractors comply with applicable environmental regulations, authorisations and management plans. The role involves conducting site inspections, identifying environmental risks, supporting incident management and promoting environmental awareness across operational teams.
What You'll Do
- Conduct daily environmental inspections and compliance audits.
- Implement and monitor environmental management programmes.
- Identify environmental risks and recommend corrective measures.
- Support environmental incident reporting and follow-up actions.
- Monitor waste management, water use and pollution prevention.
- Maintain environmental compliance records and prepare reports.
- Deliver environmental awareness sessions and toolbox talks.
- Support operational teams and contractors in meeting environmental requirements.
- Work closely with the Environmental Manager to maintain environmental standards across operations.
Requirements
- National Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Environmental Management, Environmental Science, Environmental Studies, Natural Sciences or a related discipline.
- Approximately 2–5 years of relevant environmental experience, depending on qualification level and operational complexity.
- Candidate or professional registration with SACNASP or EAPASA is advantageous, where appropriate.
- Experience conducting environmental inspections and monitoring in industrial, mining, energy or infrastructure environments.
- Exposure to environmental management plans, environmental authorisations and licence conditions.
- Experience maintaining environmental records, preparing reports and tracking corrective actions.
- Familiarity with contractor environmental compliance and operational site procedures.
- Experience in gas, drilling, pipelines or processing facilities is advantageous.
- Experience developing maps and using GIS software.
