PROCESSING AND MANUFACTURING COMPANY is seeking a qualified and experienced Safety Manager to strengthen occupational health and safety standards across its operations in Lusaka, Zambia.
The Opportunity
The company is looking for an experienced safety professional who can develop and enforce occupational health and safety policies, maintain regulatory compliance, manage workplace risks, and promote a strong safety culture across operational departments.
This is a contract-based opportunity with a starting monthly salary of 3,500 ZMW.
What You'll Do
Health & Safety Management
Develop, implement, and continuously monitor occupational health and safety policies, procedures, and systems.
Conduct workplace inspections, risk assessments, safety audits, and hazard identification activities.
Compliance & Regulatory Management
Ensure compliance with applicable Zambian occupational health, safety, and mining legislation.
Liaise with regulatory authorities and relevant stakeholders to maintain compliance and promote industry best practices.
Incident Investigation
Investigate accidents, incidents, and near misses, identifying root causes and recommending corrective and preventive actions.
Maintain accurate safety records and prepare comprehensive reports for management.
Safety Training & Awareness
Lead safety inductions, toolbox talks, employee training, and safety awareness initiatives.
Promote and sustain a strong safety culture across all departments.
Emergency & PPE Management
Coordinate emergency preparedness and response activities.
Oversee the appropriate issuance, use, and management of personal protective equipment (PPE).
Requirements
Core Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Health, Mining Safety, or a related discipline.
Minimum of 10 years of relevant experience in safety management.
Comprehensive knowledge of Zambian occupational health, safety, and mining legislation.
Technical Expertise
Proven experience in accident and incident investigation.
Strong knowledge of workplace risk assessment, inspections, audits, and safety management systems.
Proficiency in computer applications and safety management software.
Professional safety certification will be an added advantage.
Professional Strengths
Strong leadership and team management capabilities.
Excellent communication, presentation, analytical, and report-writing skills.
Ability to identify workplace hazards and implement effective corrective and preventive measures.
