About Oando PLC
Oando PLC is a Nigerian energy company with operations spanning the oil and gas value chain. The company is seeking a Sustainability Manager, Compliance & Reporting to strengthen the execution of its Group ESG Strategy Framework and oversee sustainability compliance and reporting activities across Oando and its subsidiaries.
The role will work closely with senior leadership, the Board of Directors, regulators, ranking agencies, business partners and other stakeholders to ensure that sustainability performance is accurately measured, reported and aligned with regulatory requirements and international ESG standards.
The Opportunity
Oando is hiring a Sustainability Manager, Compliance & Reporting to oversee ESG compliance, sustainability reporting, ESG data management and stakeholder engagement across the Group.
Reporting directly to the Divisional Manager, Sustainability, and indirectly to the Chief Corporate Services and Sustainability Officer, Governance and Compliance Office, the successful candidate will also supervise Sustainability Supervisors and Officers.
The position combines ESG strategy execution, corporate reporting, regulatory compliance, stakeholder engagement, project management and team leadership.
What You'll Do
ESG Strategy and Board Advisory
- Advise the Chairman, Board of Directors and other stakeholders on ESG duties and responsibilities.
- Support the execution and embedding of the Group ESG Strategy Framework across business operations.
- Monitor ESG laws, regulations and policies across jurisdictions where the Group operates.
- Develop strategies to achieve corporate sustainability goals and align initiatives with the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
- Coordinate cross-functional teams to integrate ESG objectives into business processes.
ESG Compliance and Reporting
- Develop ESG reporting templates, dashboards and KPI tracking systems.
- Monitor ESG performance against Board-approved targets and coordinate corrective actions.
- Prepare annual sustainability reports and other ESG and compliance reports.
- Oversee ESG-related financial reports and statutory documentation.
- Maintain the Group's corporate ESG database and implement data-quality controls.
- Ensure sustainability data is accurate, complete and properly verified.
Stakeholder and Regulatory Engagement
- Develop engagement strategies for shareholders, regulators and business partners.
- Maintain relationships with regulators and governance organisations.
- Coordinate with internal and external auditors on ESG data, documentation and control issues.
- Develop sustainability policies, procedures and training programmes.
- Coordinate responses to ESG due diligence requests related to corporate and funding transactions.
ESG Projects and Budget Management
- Manage ESG project budgets and resource allocation.
- Develop project plans and monitor complex, multi-stakeholder ESG initiatives.
- Coordinate ESG due diligence for corporate and funding transactions.
- Track project milestones, risks and budget utilisation through ESG dashboards.
- Ensure reporting and stakeholder commitments are delivered on schedule and within scope.
Team Leadership
- Lead, mentor and develop ESG professionals.
- Establish performance objectives linked to the Group's ESG strategy.
- Monitor team performance using KPIs and periodic reviews.
- Support succession planning and professional development.
- Facilitate knowledge-sharing sessions covering emerging ESG regulations, reporting standards and industry practices.
Requirements
Core Qualifications
- First degree in Law, Environmental Studies, Business Administration or a related discipline.
- Minimum of 12 to 14 years of post-qualification experience.
- Experience gained in a large private company, public limited company or professional firm.
- Significant experience in ESG compliance and sustainability reporting.
Technical Expertise
Candidates should have proven experience in:
- Sustainability and ESG compliance frameworks.
- ESG reporting and internationally recognised reporting standards.
- Global Reporting Initiative (GRI).
- Sustainability Accounting Standards Board (SASB).
- IFRS Sustainability Disclosure Standards.
- Developing and implementing corporate ESG and sustainability strategies.
- ESG data management and performance monitoring.
- Regulatory and stakeholder engagement.
- Complex, multi-stakeholder project management.
Desirable Qualifications and Experience
- Professional certification in Sustainability or ESG Reporting.
- GRI Sustainability Professional Certification.
- GARP Sustainability and Climate Risk (SCR) Certification.
- Experience in the oil and gas or energy sector.
- Experience using ESG data platforms, sustainability software or environmental management systems.
