The Natural Resource Governance Institute (NRGI) is an international nonprofit organization working to help resource-rich countries achieve sustainable and inclusive development. Its work focuses on improving the governance of oil, gas and minerals through research, policy analysis, technical assistance and advocacy.
The Opportunity
NRGI is seeking an Africa Economic Analyst to join its Ghana program and contribute to regional work across Africa. The role will focus on economic and policy analysis related to natural resource governance, revenue management, oil and gas, mining, minerals, energy transition and transition minerals.
What You’ll Do
- Conduct economic research and quantitative and qualitative analysis on extractives governance and energy transition.
- Develop economic and financial models and analyze complex datasets.
- Produce research reports, policy briefs, blogs, opinion pieces and other thought leadership.
- Provide economic analysis, policy advice and technical assistance to decision makers.
- Design and deliver training, workshops, conferences and stakeholder dialogues.
- Manage projects, consultants, budgets, timelines and monitoring, evaluation and learning activities.
- Contribute to funding proposals and donor engagement.
- Build relationships with government institutions, civil society, development partners, media, private sector and other stakeholders.
- Support advocacy and communications strategies.
- Represent NRGI at conferences, events and policy forums.
Requirements
Core Qualifications
- Master's degree in economics or a related field.
- At least 2 years of experience working on extractive industry governance in Ghana.
- Experience in at least one relevant area such as public financial management, taxation, microeconomics, state-owned enterprise management, energy transition or transition minerals.
- Work experience in Ghana is essential.
- Some working knowledge and experience in Africa.
Technical Expertise
- Excellent quantitative analysis skills.
- Experience synthesizing datasets from multiple sources.
- Ability to develop and adapt economic and financial models.
- Experience providing technical assistance on policy or research issues.
- Knowledge of the African extractives sector policy context.
Professional Strengths
- Experience working with government and non-state actors on development policy in Ghana.
- Experience delivering training and capacity-development interventions.
- Strong strategic and conceptual thinking skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
Language Requirements
- Excellent written and spoken French.
