About the Organisation

Agora Energiewende is not a typical NGO.

It sits at the intersection of:

Policy influence
Technical analysis
Global energy strategy

They shape how governments think about energy systems, industry decarbonization, and economic transitions — especially in regions undergoing structural change like South Korea.

What This Role Really Is

This is a policy + strategy + international coordination role.

You are not just writing reports.

You are:

Translating global best practices into Korean policy
Advising stakeholders and governments
Helping design real-world decarbonization pathways

Think of it as:

“Bridge between research, policy, and implementation.”

Core Responsibilities

Research & Analysis

Lead studies on:

  • Renewable energy expansion
  • Power system transformation
  • Industrial decarbonization (steel, chemicals)

Policy Advisory

Analyze Korea’s energy and industrial policies
Develop actionable, evidence-based policy recommendations
Advise government and institutions

Stakeholder Engagement

Work directly with:

  • Industry leaders
  • Policymakers
  • International partners

Translate their needs into policy insights

International Knowledge Transfer

Bring global best practices into Korea
Support broader East Asia transition efforts

Partnerships & Strategy

Collaborate with partner organizations
Help shape Agora’s long-term strategy in Korea
Support fundraising and proposal development

What You Need

Core Profile

Master’s degree (economics, engineering, or related)
4+ years experience in energy / industry transition

Technical + Strategic Depth

Understanding of: Energy systems
Industrial decarbonization pathways
Economic and policy frameworks

Regional Advantage

Experience in East Asia = strong bonus
Knowledge of South Korea’s policy landscape = major edge

Professional Skills

Strong writing (policy papers, reports)
Stakeholder engagement & diplomacy
Ability to work across cultures and disciplines

Languages

English (required)
Korean (highly valuable)
German (bonus)

What Makes This Role Different

Unlike technical carbon roles (like Earthshot):

This is about shaping systems, not measuring them.

You won’t be: Running field models
Doing MRV audits

You will be: Influencing national policy
Designing transition pathways
Connecting global expertise to local action

Reality Check (Important)

This role is ideal if you:

Want policy impact
Like international, cross-cultural work
Enjoy research + strategy + stakeholder interaction

This role is not ideal if you:

Prefer technical modeling (forestry, carbon accounting)
Want purely academic research
Avoid stakeholder-facing work

Why This Role Matters

South Korea is one of the most important industrial economies in the world.

Decarbonizing: Steel
Chemicals
Energy systems

…has global implications.

This role puts you directly in that transformation.
