The Opportunity

This role sits at the convergence of technical authority, business leadership, and client strategy.

As a Principal Environmental Engineer, you are not just solving problems. You are defining how they get solved. You will lead high-stakes remediation efforts, shape regulatory and legal outcomes, and guide both clients and internal teams through technically complex landscapes.

At its core, this is a revenue-generating leadership role with influence that extends across projects, people, and long-term firm strategy.

What You’ll Do

Technical & Project Leadership

Serve as principal-in-charge for complex soil and groundwater remediation projects
Lead drinking water system projects with a focus on technical defensibility and innovation
Oversee modeling, design, and reporting to ensure QA/QC compliance and scientific rigor
Provide expert-level insight on emerging contaminants, including PFAS treatment approaches

Advisory & Expert Services

Act as a consulting and/or testifying expert in complex litigation matters
Advise clients on regulatory strategy, environmental risk, and long-term liability management
Support redevelopment and transactional due diligence with technical clarity and precision
Interface with regulatory agencies to drive permitting, compliance, and site closure strategies

Business & Client Development

Generate annual net revenue of $1.25M or more through client engagement and delivery
Lead proposal development and scope high-value technical opportunities
Build and sustain long-term client relationships rooted in trust and results
Expand service offerings across existing and new client portfolios

Leadership & Talent Development

Mentor senior and mid-level professionals to elevate technical and leadership capacity
Recruit and develop next-generation leaders within the firm
Contribute to internal standards, best practices, and thought leadership initiatives
Operate as a visible and credible leader both internally and externally

Requirements

Core Qualifications

M.S. or Ph.D. in Environmental Engineering, Civil Engineering, or related field
Minimum of 15 years of experience in environmental consulting

Licensing & Expertise

Professional Engineer (P.E.) license required
Deep expertise in site investigation and remediation strategies
Strong experience with groundwater systems and drinking water treatment
Familiarity with emerging contaminants, including PFAS technologies

Proven leadership as a strategic advisor on complex environmental projects
Strong written and verbal communication skills
High-level organizational and analytical abilities
Ability to operate independently and within multidisciplinary teams
