About The Pokémon Company International
The Pokémon Company International manages one of the most culturally dominant franchises on the planet. Since its launch in 1996, Pokémon has evolved from a game into a multi-billion dollar ecosystem spanning cards, media, merchandise, and digital experiences.
This role focuses on the physical heartbeat of that empire: the Trading Card Game.
The Opportunity
Let’s be blunt.
This is not a “green initiatives” role.
This is supply chain transformation disguised as sustainability.
You are the single-threaded owner of sustainability for TCG. That means:
Every card printed
Every pack wrapped
Every shipment moved
...runs through the lens you design.
What You’ll Do
Strategy & Leadership
Define TCG-specific sustainability strategy aligned with growth and resilience
Translate global ESG expectations into practical, product-level execution
Advise senior leadership on risk, trade-offs, and opportunity
Regulatory Compliance & Risk
Navigate global regulations across:
Packaging
Materials
Climate disclosures
Extended Producer Responsibility
Anticipate regulatory shocks before they hit operations
Sustainable Materials & Supply Chain
Lead initiatives across:
Sustainable materials
Packaging redesign
Emissions reduction
Waste minimization
Responsible sourcing
Balance five forces constantly:
Cost
Scalability
Quality
Brand integrity
Sustainability
Miss one, and the system pushes back.
Data & Performance
Own sustainability data architecture for TCG
Define KPIs and track environmental impact
Turn messy datasets into clear operational decisions
If you cannot measure it, you cannot defend it in a boardroom
People Leadership
Build and lead a sustainability team
Define capabilities as the business scales
Influence cross-functional teams without direct authority
Cross-Functional Execution
Operate as the central node between:
Supply Chain
Legal
Procurement
Manufacturing
Packaging
External vendors
You are not a department.
You are the integration layer.
What They’re Looking For
A hybrid operator. Part strategist, part engineer, part diplomat.
Core requirements:
8+ years in sustainability, supply chain, or environmental compliance
5+ years leading teams
Deep understanding of global sustainability regulations
Experience working inside complex, global supply chains
Strong analytical capability with large datasets
Preferred Edge
Consumer products or manufacturing experience
Lifecycle assessment knowledge
Supplier sustainability program exposure
Cross-functional execution across legal, product, and operations
What Makes This Role Interesting
Most sustainability roles write policies.
This one answers a harder question:
Can sustainability survive contact with mass production?
You are dealing with:
High-volume manufacturing
Global logistics
Fan expectations
Cost pressures
Regulatory fragmentation
And somehow, it all still has to feel like Pokémon.
Culture Signals
The company emphasizes:
Creativity over rigidity
Curiosity over comfort
Team-first execution
Customer obsession
Which sounds soft, but in practice means:
You will need to push ideas through resistance without breaking alignment.
Why This Role Matters
Trading cards look simple. They are not.
They represent:
Paper sourcing decisions
Chemical processes
Energy consumption
Global shipping emissions
Multiply that by millions of units, and suddenly this role sits on real environmental leverage.
