THE COMPANY
Google’s sustainability strategy is not just about carbon. It is about systems.
Water sits at the center of that system, especially as data centers expand globally. Cooling infrastructure alone makes water a strategic resource, not a background utility.
THE OPPORTUNITY
This is a rare kind of role.
You are not managing a program. You are defining how one of the most influential tech companies on earth interacts with global water systems.
As Water Stewardship Lead, you will own both strategy and execution of Google’s global water initiatives, pushing beyond compliance into large-scale environmental impact.
THE ROLE
You will operate at the intersection of infrastructure, sustainability, and policy.
You will:
Lead Google’s global water stewardship strategy and execution.
Drive initiatives that improve watershed health and water security.
Oversee cross-functional programs tied to data centers, offices, and supply chains.
Develop scalable solutions for water efficiency, replenishment, and risk mitigation.
Represent Google in industry forums and external stakeholder engagements.
Translate water data, risks, and trends into business decisions.
Support advocacy and thought leadership on global water sustainability.
CORE FOCUS AREAS
Water Strategy & Execution
Define long-term direction and scale water stewardship programs globally.
Infrastructure & Data Centers
Optimize water use in high-demand environments like cooling systems.
Watershed Impact
Support replenishment projects and ecosystem restoration efforts.
Stakeholder Engagement
Work with policymakers, NGOs, and industry coalitions.
Data & Insights
Leverage analytics to guide decisions and track impact.
WHAT THEY’RE LOOKING FOR
You are both technical and strategic.
Typical expectations include:
8+ years of experience in water stewardship, sustainability, or related fields.
Strong background in program or project management.
Experience working across complex, cross-functional environments.
Understanding of water systems, risk, and environmental impact.
Ability to influence at senior levels and represent the company externally.
COMPENSATION
Estimated base salary: $188,000 – $275,000 per year (varies by location and level).
Additional compensation may include bonus, equity, and full benefits.
BENEFITS
Comprehensive health, dental, and vision insurance.
401(k) with company match.
Paid time off and parental leave.
Equity participation and performance bonuses.
WHY THIS ROLE MATTERS
Water is the hidden constraint of the digital economy.
Data centers depend on it. AI growth intensifies it. Communities compete for it.
Google has committed to replenishing more water than it consumes by 2030, making this role central to delivering on that promise.
This is sustainability at infrastructure scale.
