About the Organization

Bloomberg Philanthropies operates one of the most influential global philanthropy platforms, working across climate, cities, public health, and governance.

Within it, Bloomberg Associates (BA) functions like an elite pro bono consulting unit for cities, helping governments solve real operational and policy problems.

About the Role

This is a hands-on, execution-focused fellowship working directly on housing challenges in cities.

As a Housing Fellow, you will support projects that help governments improve housing affordability, planning, and program delivery.

This is not theoretical policy work—you are helping cities design and implement solutions in real time.

What You’ll Do

Research & Policy Analysis

Conduct housing policy research and best-practice benchmarking
Interview municipal staff and stakeholders
Develop case studies and strategic recommendations

Data & Housing Needs Analysis

Support housing needs assessments using data analysis
Translate data into clear insights and presentations
Help cities understand demand, supply gaps, and affordability challenges

Program Design & Implementation Support

Assist in developing housing programs and strategies
Support creation of dashboards and data systems
Help structure processes and SOPs for city housing initiatives

Project Management & Stakeholder Coordination

Work with multiple city governments simultaneously
Coordinate with internal teams and external partners
Ensure deliverables are high-quality and on time

What They’re Looking For

This role is ideal if you are early-career but highly capable.

Strong candidates:

Have 2+ years experience in housing, urban planning, or public policy

Are strong in data analysis + research + PowerPoint storytelling

Can simplify complex policy/data into clear insights

Are organized and execution-focused

Are comfortable working with city officials and stakeholders

Bonus: experience with Tableau or data visualization tools

What You’ll Gain

Direct exposure to real city governments and policy execution

Experience working on housing affordability solutions

A strong foundation in urban policy + consulting-style problem solving

Brand value from Bloomberg Philanthropies

Reality Check (Important)

  • This is part-time + short-term (6 months)
  • It is execution-heavy, not a senior strategy role
  • Pay is solid for a fellowship, but not comparable to full-time policy roles

This is best seen as a career accelerator, not a long-term position.

How It Compares to Your Other Roles

  • IISD (Senior Policy Advisor) → senior, technical, global policy influence
  • ClimateWorks (Associate Director) → leadership + global coordination
  • Bloomberg Housing Fellow (this role) → early-career, execution + city-level impact

👉 This one is the most hands-on and entry/mid-level friendly
