The African Venture Philanthropy Alliance (AVPA) is a Pan-African network of social investors working to increase the flow of capital into impactful investments across the continent. By mobilising philanthropic, public, and private capital, AVPA plays a central role in closing the SDG financing gap and strengthening Africa’s social investment ecosystem.
With headquarters in Nairobi and regional offices in Johannesburg and Lagos, AVPA collaborates with global partner networks across Europe, Latin America, Asia, and the Arab region.
About the Role:
This is a high-level, systems-shaping mandate.
AVPA is seeking an experienced research consulting firm to lead a flagship study aimed at unlocking private capital for healthcare investments across Africa.
The assignment spans the full research lifecycle and is designed to produce actionable, investor-ready insights that influence policy, capital flows, and ecosystem development.
In this role, you will:
Design and execute a comprehensive research strategy using mixed methods.
Conduct regulatory, policy, and investment landscape analysis across African healthcare markets.
Identify barriers and opportunities for mobilising private capital into health.
Develop case studies on innovative finance and impact investing in healthcare.
Produce a flagship research report, executive summary, and policy recommendations.
Design and deliver a two-part webinar series to engage ecosystem stakeholders.
Lead stakeholder engagement, validation, and dissemination processes.
Deliver investor-facing materials including presentations and communication assets.
Key Deliverables:
Inception report and detailed work plan
Flagship research report
Executive summary and recommendations brief
PowerPoint presentation deck (full and abridged versions)
Two webinars (October 2026 and February 2027)
Communication and dissemination assets
Final narrative report on outcomes and impact
About You (Firm Requirements):
You are not just a research team, you are an ecosystem operator.
To qualify, your firm must demonstrate:
At least 10 years of experience in African health financing, innovative finance, or impact investing research.
Strong expertise in mixed-methods research including surveys, case studies, and qualitative analysis.
Advanced qualifications (Master’s or PhD) in Health Economics, Public Health, Development Finance, Economics, or related fields.
Proven track record of delivering high-quality policy, investor, or flagship research reports.
Deep networks across African health ecosystems including SMEs, investors, policymakers, and DFIs.
Expertise in regulatory analysis, market systems, and capital mobilisation strategies.
Strong facilitation skills for webinars, convenings, and stakeholder engagement.
Exceptional writing and knowledge translation capabilities.
