Environmental Standards Expert – Climate | Apple Inc.

Location: Cupertino
Team: Environment, Policy & Social Initiatives
Role Number: 200668514-0836

Role Summary

This is not your typical ESG role.

This is standards-level influence.

You are not applying frameworks.
You are helping shape the frameworks the world uses.

At Apple Inc., environmental ambition is aggressive. The company is pushing toward full carbon neutrality across its footprint, from products to supply chains.

This role sits right at that frontier.

What You’ll Actually Do

1. Shape Global Climate Standards

  • Represent Apple in global standards bodies like ISO, IEC, SBTi, and GHG Protocol
  • Participate in technical debates that define how emissions are measured and reported
  • Influence methodologies used across industries worldwide

2. Develop Technical Positions

  • Build Apple’s positions on:
    • carbon accounting
    • science-based targets
    • climate disclosures
  • Analyze proposed changes to standards and assess business impact

3. Track the Regulatory & Standards Landscape

  • Monitor emerging standards, working groups, and consultation periods
  • Identify where Apple must engage early to influence outcomes
  • Stay ahead of regulatory shifts, not react to them

4. Translate Complexity into Action

  • Act as the internal authority on climate standards
  • Translate complex technical rules into clear business guidance
  • Align engineering, operations, and leadership around implementation

What This Role Really Is

Let’s be blunt.

This is:

  • Policy influence without being a policymaker
  • Technical authority without being purely academic
  • Strategy with real-world consequences at global scale

You sit in rooms where:

  • definitions of “net zero” are debated
  • accounting rules are rewritten
  • industries quietly reshape themselves

Candidate Profile (In Reality)

Based on the role’s depth, this is what it implies:

  • Deep expertise in:
    • GHG accounting
    • climate frameworks
    • carbon target methodologies
  • Experience engaging with:
    • standards bodies
    • regulatory processes
    • technical working groups
  • Ability to operate across:
    • policy
    • science
    • corporate strategy

This is not entry-level.
Not mid-level either.

This is expert territory.

Strategic Context

  • Apple is targeting full carbon neutrality across products and supply chain
  • Environmental strategy spans manufacturing, logistics, and product lifecycle
  • Standards define how progress is measured and validated

If the standards shift,
the entire strategy shifts with them.

Reality Check

This role is:

  • highly specialized
  • deeply technical
  • globally influential

You are not implementing ESG.
You are shaping the rules ESG operates on.
