Role Summary
This role sits at the intersection of regulation, sustainability, and supply chain control.
You are not just checking compliance.
You are building the system that proves cocoa is deforestation-free under the EU Deforestation Regulation.
At its core, this is about one thing:
traceability with consequences.
What You’ll Be Responsible For
1. Compliance & Risk Control
- Implement traceability and due diligence systems aligned with EUDR
- Oversee compliance of suppliers, subcontractors, and partners
- Conduct risk assessments, mitigation, and prevention strategies
- Respond to due diligence requests from financial institutions and clients
2. Due Diligence System Development
- Build and refine due diligence frameworks across the cocoa supply chain
- Strengthen first- and second-level internal controls
- Conduct internal audits and coordinate external audits
- Lead investigations and develop corrective action plans
3. Audit & Corrective Action Management
- Design audit tools, procedures, and schedules
- Identify non-conformities and enforce corrective actions
- Monitor implementation of improvements across suppliers
- Manage and evaluate external auditors
4. Regulatory Monitoring & Advisory
- Track evolving regulations across EU and African frameworks
- Interpret policies such as EUDR and adapt internal systems
- Engage with regulators, industry bodies, and experts
- Translate regulatory changes into operational action
5. Training & Capacity Building
- Train internal teams and suppliers on compliance requirements
- Build local capacity for long-term regulatory alignment
- Promote best practices across the supply chain
6. Reporting & Documentation
- Maintain full regulatory documentation and audit trails
- Report on compliance performance, risks, and progress
- Track KPIs such as audit outcomes and resolution rates
- Ensure alignment with European and Nigerian legal frameworks
Candidate Profile
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Law, Sustainability, Business, Auditing or related field
- Master’s degree preferred
- 3 to 5 years in:
- compliance
- auditing
- risk management
- certification systems
Technical Knowledge
- Strong understanding of:
- EU Deforestation Regulation
- Rainforest Alliance
- Fairtrade
- Familiarity with cocoa sustainability programs and traceability systems
Core Skills
- Analytical and detail-oriented mindset
- Strong project and stakeholder management
- Ability to operate independently in complex environments
- Clear communication across technical and non-technical teams
- High ethical standards and transparency
