About the Organization:
The Africa Minigrid Developers Association (AMDA) is the core industry body for private minigrid developers in Africa.
They sit in a very specific but powerful space:
where energy access, climate finance, and infrastructure investment collide.
Their mission is simple in wording but complex in execution:
unlock capital so decentralized renewable energy systems can scale across underserved regions.
About the Role:
This role is essentially a capital market problem-solving position for energy access.
You will help fix one of the biggest bottlenecks in the energy transition:
money that is available, but not structured correctly for the sector.
So your job is not just analysis.
It is financial system design for impact deployment.
What You’ll Do:
Capital Access Strategy
- Support implementation of AMDA’s Access to Capital strategy
- Contribute to designing scalable financing solutions for minigrids
- Help improve blended finance and subsidy structures
Financial & Investment Analysis
- Analyze minigrid business models and project economics
- Assess bankability and investment readiness of projects
- Identify barriers such as currency risk, tenure mismatch, and capital gaps
- Translate findings into investor-ready insights
Investor & Stakeholder Engagement
- Engage with DFIs, private investors, and financial institutions
- Support development of tailored financing structures
- Help align investor expectations with sector realities
Capacity Building & Member Support
- Assess financing needs of AMDA members
- Support training in:
- Project structuring
- Corporate finance
- Fundraising readiness
- Deliver at least two training sessions annually
Project Management
- Lead assigned initiatives from design to delivery
- Develop tools, frameworks, and practical financing guides
- Ensure outputs are actionable for real-world deployment
Coordination & Reporting
- Prepare meeting notes, briefs, and follow-ups
- Track progress across multiple initiatives
- Support internal coordination with leadership
Who They’re Looking For:
- 3–5 years experience in:
- Investment banking
- Private equity
- Project finance
- Consulting or DFI programs
- Strong financial modelling and valuation skills
- Understanding of blended finance and capital structuring
- Experience in African infrastructure or energy markets preferred
- Strong communication and stakeholder engagement ability
- Ability to work in fast-moving, multi-priority environments
Why This Role Matters:
This is not just an ESG job.
This is where:
- infrastructure finance meets climate policy
- investor capital meets last-mile energy delivery
- financial modeling translates into real-world electrification
In plain terms:
If you get this right, households get power. Businesses get uptime. Entire systems shift.
